    What it costs

INFII does not quote a separate rate per corridor. Costs come from your plan and the FX spread applied at conversion, so the plan page is the accurate source rather than a per-country table.

How to send USD to HKD

Send Money From USD to HKD

Hong Kong is one of the world’s most connected financial hubs, yet USD to HKD transfers can still feel more procedural than many other corridors. Recipients often use local rails such as FPS, banks may require specific formats such as a bank code or exact account structure, and higher value transfers can trigger additional confirmation steps before funds are released. These are not unusual restrictions, they are part of how the Hong Kong payment ecosystem keeps transfers fast and controlled, and knowing them upfront helps you avoid delays and rework.

Step 1: Decide what must be fixed

    Start with one decision.

    An exact HKD outcome
Choose this when an invoice, rent, salary, or fee is stated in HKD. You want the recipient to receive a specific HKD amount.

A USD amount converted along the way
Choose this when the amount is stated in USD and the HKD result can vary with rate and timing. This decision affects where FX happens and how predictable the final HKD amount is.

Step 2: Choose the delivery method the recipient can actually accept

Most HKD payouts land via one of these options.

Local bank transfer to an HKD denominated account in Hong Kong.

FPS payout using an FPS identifier linked to a bank account. FPS can be linked to a mobile number, email, or an FPS ID.

If the recipient expects an FPS payout, sending to standard bank details can create unnecessary back and forth.

Step 3: Collect the right HK details upfront

HKD transfers fail or slow down most often because of beneficiary detail mismatch.

For local bank details, you typically need the recipient’s full name in Latin characters, a local account number, and a 3 digit bank code also known as a clearing code.

Account number format can matter too. One common format starts with a 3 digit branch code, followed by a 6 to 9 digit account number, for example 123-456788-121.

For FPS payout, you generally need the recipient’s name in English characters and a linked identifier such as an email, an FPS ID, or a mobile number, plus local address details.

Step 4: Set expectations on timing and value limits

HKD transfers can be fast, but timing depends on when funds are received, converted, and released on the delivery rail.

A common benchmark is that once funds are received and converted, delivery can take 1 to 3 working days, and conversion itself can take up to 2 working days depending on the process. You may also face per transfer limits. One reference point used by some providers is up to 10 million HKD per transfer.

Step 5: Prepare for extra checks on higher value transfers

Higher value USD to HKD transfers are more likely to trigger additional questions. This is normal.

Extra information may be requested for larger transfers, such as the reason for the transfer and additional recipient information.

The practical way to avoid delays is to have the invoice, contract, or a short payment explanation ready before you initiate.

Common issues people face when sending USD to HKD

    • FX uncertainty, where the quoted rate and the applied rate differ because of spreads and timing
    • Fee deductions along the route, especially when intermediaries are involved
    • Wrong beneficiary format, such as missing bank code, wrong branch or account format, or FPS details not matching
    • Delays around cut off times, weekends, or public holidays
    • Additional checks on higher value transfers when supporting context is not ready
    • Poor status visibility, leading to time wasted chasing confirmation
